Occupy Photos: West Coast Port Shut Down | Seattle Photographer

This protestor was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bike. The car drove into a crowd of protestors and then fled the scene. The man declined medical attention and seemed to be OK.

Protestors talk with Jeff Wheeler, a truck driver who was temporarily blocked by the protestors’ barricade. “I can barely make a living doing what I do,” he said, saying that he makes $29,000 per year.

Seattle, WA, U.S. — Friday, December 9, 2012 — Occupy Seattle demonstrators clean and break down their encampment at Seattle Central Community College as they prepare to leave upon eviction orders from the college. A 72-hour eviction notice was delivered on Tuesday and by Friday, demonstrators were preparing to vacate without much resistance.

My First Roll of Film | Seattle Photographer

My work, Still photography, Uncategorized

It’s hard to tell what was really my first roll of film but it looks like we uncovered the earliest roll that I know of so far, which I shot in 1992 with my parents’ camera. Not quite sure what kind of camera it was. 1992 would be about 2nd grade for me.

We are going through a lot of old boxes right now as my mom and step dad begin to get ready to downsize to a smaller house. I believe these are all images from our home in Redmond, near Seattle. Photographers learn and change a lot throughout their lives but do you think I had a little natural talent back then?? Maybe … maybe not … !

Occupy Seattle Takes Over Warehouse | Seattle Photographer

My work, photojournalism, Seattle, Still photography

Shot for Zuma Press.

Below: ‘Occupy Seattle’ protestors are pictured at a warehouse they took over in Seattle, Washington on Friday, December 2, 2012. Approximately 75 protestors entered the warehouse and barricaded most entrances, just hours after a judge ruled that Seattle Central Community College may evict the group’s encampment, which had moved to the college a month ago after leaving Westlake Park in downtown Seattle. The warehouse is three blocks from the college.

Teaching Math With Microsoft Kinect

Multimedia, My work, Published work, Tech stuff, University of Washington, UW Bothell, Video

I recently created a video for the University of Washington Bothell that tells the story of two outstanding Computer and Software Systems students and a professor. They are developing a computer program that allows high school teachers to use the motion and voice capabilities of the Microsoft Kinect video game system in order to enrich the high school mathematics learning experience. Have a look at the short film below:

(Below) Seattle, Washington – November 26, 2011 — Workers clear broken windows at a vandalized U.S. Bank branch in Seattle, Washington on Saturday. Vandals broke nearly every window at the north Seattle bank early Saturday morning and left a spray-painted message that read “revenge for Occupy Oakland.” The damage is estimated in the tens of thousands.

Black Friday Protest – Occupy Seattle Walmart Protest

My work, photojournalism, Seattle, Still photography

Shot for Zuma Press. If you wish to license any of these images, please contact me or sales@zumapress.com

Today Occupy Seattle protestors joined up with protestors from Occupy movements in Bellingham, Everett, Tacoma and other cities to stage a Black Friday protest at Wal-Mart in Renton, Washington. There were a lot of Seattle photographers there but not too many members of the media, which sometimes does happen at these kinds of events. I shot some images on the iPhone using the Hipstamatic app and I also shot pictures with my usual workhorse camera, the Canon 5D mark II. See some of my Occupy Seattle Wal-Mart protest pictures below:

UW Bothell – Wetlands Video – Cascadia Community College

Multimedia, My work, Nature, Published work, Sustainability, University of Washington, UW Bothell, Video

I recently directed a short film in partnership with producer Jim Perich-Anderson about the wetlands restoration project on the UW Bothell/Cascadia College co-located campus. The film highlights the remarkable transformation of a once heavily degraded wetland – which was essentially just a cow pasture – into an outstanding educational and environmental resource.  Have a look at the film below and check out the UWB/CCC building dashboard website, where the film is featured.
